Infrared Lamps Can Be Used At Home For Therapy

By Thomas Collins

Devices that spread infrared radiation are known as infrared lamps and they are used in various domains. They are highly known to be used in heating and communication, mostly remote control devices and optical fibers. They are quite popular nowadays in night vision devices. They have been used in the chemical analysis of liquids or gases, a usage a bit less known.

It works by transmitting invisible infrared light waves into your body. It feels like a gentle heat, but it is known to be able to penetrate into your tissues, thus improving the blood circulation, hydration and oxygenation of the area you work on.

The bulbs used for these lamps are big and red, 250 Watts, and they can also emit, besides red light, also orange and yellow. Do not confuse them or purchase clear or halogen bulbs. Keep in mind that the color of the bulb may also be yellowish to red. You can purchase the bulb and socket separately or a ready-made one. It is easier to buy a ready one, but keep in mind to handle them with great care.

Infrared heat lamps can be used at home to manage some issues you may have, mostly skin problems or pain relief. For skin, it can be of use as anti-aging and rejuvenation treatment, or for various other issues: acne, wounds, infections, rashes, etc. Also, the costs for them are minimal.

To aid with pain relief you need to put your lamp close to your bed or your chair and sit next to it, but at around 18-24 inch distance. Place the heat towards the side of your body, not above you. Make sure you use eye protection, and for this you can refer to goggles or special glasses that block infrared light. Heat up the area that pains you and keep it as much as you can tolerate, but move just a bit every few minutes. Use it for no more than 3 sessions per day for 15-20 minutes. If you have headaches or pains in the head area, do not exceed 10 minutes per session.

For skin anti-aging or rejuvenation, you also need to place the lamp close to a chair or bed and you should be around 12 to 22 inch away from it. Treat each skin area for no longer than 5 or 6 min, and repeat the treatment each 2-3 days. Do not use every day, as the skin needs time to heal and regenerate, so 4 or 5 times a week is enough. Make sure to protect your eyes.

Any other skin issues will be handled in the same way as mentioned above. Note that this lamp can also kill the bacteria that are resistant to antibiotic and this will help with the healing process.

If you are wondering when the results will appear, for pain relief you will start feeling it immediately. For skin issues, it will take a bit more time, but in 1 to 2 weeks you will notice the skin being healthier. Fine lines will start to disappear in the first 2 to 6 weeks. In 4 months you will see a big difference in how your skin looks like and will notice the wrinkles starting to disappear.
