Diversity Training Baltimore Md And Beyond

While unity and equality are two different concepts, there are close ties. As such, when a business, company, theater group or university offers Diversity training Baltimore md, the material often focuses on both areas. For example, one theater troupe, the Baltimore Improv Group offers this type of training through performance based education and workshops on an ongoing basis.

In Baltimore, as in other areas of the United States, theater is one area in which diversity is often more accepted than others. Now, BIG, or the Baltimore Improv Group is working to create a world in which inclusivity, equity and diversity are the norm. In doing so, the group host an improv university, nightclub and uses art as a platform to teach others the importance of diversity and equality.

While training the organizational leadership, student body, members and ensemble is the first step, the group also hopes to include aspects of training in each and every performance. For, the group feels if the audience can relate to the message of equality in art, there may be a better chance for communities to embrace the concept. As a result, the group then hopes those in attendance will continue to spread the message outside the confines of the theater.

Being committed to equal rights is a priority for the group. For, inclusivity in, and outside the group are at the center of the art created and performed by members. In doing so, the group exposes improv to aspiring performers and underserved communities in the area. In addition to free performances, BIG also sponsors student game nights and workshops on a regular basis.

As the primary goal of BIG is to provide training in equal rights through performance, shows are often focused on and accessible to minorities including, individuals identifying as LGBTQ+, immigrants, mentally and physically challenged individuals, senior citizens, military members, veterans and people of color. Unlike most comedic theater groups which tend to taunt these individuals, BIG creates a more positive environment in which equity and diversity are celebrated.

Different areas and programs are offered by BIG on an ongoing basis. Whether increasing access to performances, providing scholarships or working to create a better understanding of difference and communication in the local community, the group provides all these services and more. More importantly, throughout the process BIG raises an awareness of the need for empathy, inclusion, equity and diversity, not only locally but on a global scale.

Alliance building is the second of the three programs. In this aspect, the group works to build bridges between colleges, corporations and community organizations to create better communication and understanding of difference between these groups. Whereas, the third programming area is that of talent cultivation. In this aspect, the group supports mentorship and opportunities to perform in the classroom while providing a conservatory for exceptional performance and talent opportunities.

Ultimately, the goal of all these programs, performance art, performances and workshops provided by the group is to provide knowledge, insight and information related to equal rights. In doing so, students and community members can learn more about acceptance, inclusion and tolerance. After which, it is hoped these individuals will also discover the beauty of diversity while living and working with an overall better sense of unity.
