Why The Right Public Restroom Supplies Are Important

By Carolyn Parker

When you think about public restrooms, you do not think that the set of bathrooms in your lobby are considered one. These are used by visitors before they come and see you and can be considered public for that reason. They should be a welcoming place for these visitors and kept clean. They should also be stocked with the right public restroom supplies.

When you look at the various things that belong in regular restrooms, it is a different kind of discussion. Doing those same things for a public one is more so. The types and number of items that are necessary, whether it is for your building lobby or the one in the park if you fill that public position, needs careful consideration.

The basics consist, first, of toilet paper. This may be dispensed from a closed dispenser or simply inserted onto a pole that might actually be locked onto a retaining bar. There is any number of brands and thickness. You may have a nice two or three ply paper at home, however, in a public setting, one or two ply is fine.

Paper towels, or at least the ability to dry hands, must also be provided. They can be virgin material or recycled. They come in colors anywhere from a brown, which are usually the recycled brands, to off white and bright white. They should be as absorbent as budgets allow. Most people like to use a lot of towels so there will be a lot used.

An innovation, over several years, is the replacement of paper towels with air blow dryers. These have been determined to be actually more sanitary than paper towels, This is a way to show those who enter how much you care about their health. It is also a way to help prevent a lot of paper towels being thrown on the floor, thus making it harder to clean.

Soap is one of those things that is necessary for the personal hygiene that must be followed in this space. A soap dispenser, stocked with liquid soap, is just the thing. It does not have to be the most expensive, however, it should be bacteria killing and smell nice. Many people have allergies and, because of that, it would also be helpful if the soap is, indeed, hypoallergenic.

One of the things that help people sit on a sanitary surface, regardless of the thoroughness of the cleaning, is a seat cover. They come from many manufacturers and the dispenser is straight forward. These should be installed and kept stocked in each toilet stall. They have brands with different types of fold that fit in specific dispensers. This does not really matter as long as you get the ones that fit in the dispenser you installed.

Finding all of these supplies is fairly easy by locating a good janitorial or paper products store. They will come packed in large industrial boxes. Having plenty of this available when the cleaning crew comes through will help minimize problems of locating everything when they are needed. No one says public restrooms should all look and smell bad.
