Choose brushes with soft bristles instead of the hard ones. There is a feeling that hard bristles will thoroughly clean your mouth. This is not usually the case. Hard bristles are likely to damage your gums and even make brushing unbearable. This could cause you to avoid getting to certain parts of your mouth. Further, the hard bristles might not bend enough to get to certain places in the mouth.

Mouthwash may be used to cover for the times where brushing is impossible. However, you must dedicate 3-5 minute of thorough cleaning every day. Use quality toothpaste and ensure that all corners and teeth are covered.

Brushing should also involve cleaning of the gums and tongue. These are areas that are likely to harbor food debris. This is why it is advisable to use a toothbrush with soft bristles to avoid hurting either the gums or tongue. Ensure that the toothbrush is angled slightly towards the gums to ensure that you reach the edges. Do not be too rough to avoid hurting your teeth and gums.

Clean your toothbrush properly after use. Ensure that it is stored in a clean and dry place. Store it in a dry place after eliminating all the water to avoid bacterial buildup. Replace your toothbrush after every 3-4 months. Observe your oral health and make adjustments where necessary.
