Reality On Political Campaign Signs

By Patrick Howard

The chief aim of political campaigns is to convince the voters to vote in the favor of a particular aspirant. Changes in democracy increased competition in the fight for leadership, and an increased number of the electorate has forced contenders to come up with new approaches towards these campaigns. The use of political campaign signs is among the new methods in campaigning.

These signs are special non-verbal things that are done during the campaigns to communicate the desired information. They are of various methods ranging from the general body signs to posters and banners. The sign used depends on the targeted people intended.

In most cases, it is found out that more than one single sign has been used in one campaign. Since this is more efficient than using a single sign in a campaign. The content of the sign can be in the form of words or abbreviations. Others are mere images with no caption words on them. The information contained may be general for everyone to read or a coded one that can be read only by particular persons.

Each party comes up with their motto or slogan for identity purposes. There are those which are expressed through actions. In most rallies the victory sign (raising of the index and middle fingers) is usually visible. For unity purposes, the one finger sign is commonly used as a symbol of unity; this is a sign where the index finger is raised alone.

There has been an increased use of banners in campaigns too. Though cost wise they are very expensive, they normally deliver the intended purposes effectively. By the use of banners, the campaigner can give information to many voters using a single of it. It normally relies on the ability of the people to see, read and encode what is being communicated by the banner.

No correlation has been proven between these campaign signs and winning an election therefore not having them or having much of this is not an indicator of failure or success. It is, however, vital to appreciate the fact that they make attacks to be much easier bearing in mind that the potential voters have increased in numbers.

Through the use of campaigning signs, media houses have taken part in doing campaigns too. Unlike the other times when the contestant had to move literally from one media house to another to do their campaign, media houses can use those associated with a particular participant to ensure their manifesto reaches to as many people as possible.

Political campaign banners and posters have created lots of employment to many people. There are those who are assigned the duty of designing them. There are those who are mandated to distribute them. Individuals with special drawing and designing talents get an avenue to utilize their abilities.

Despite being very appreciated by many people, environmentalists have always not been happy on how these items are disposed of after they are used. In most cases, the posters are left on the wall living behind a dreadful expression. Banners are also left at any places creating an unhealthy environment.
